Your historical tour of Cusco with a visit to the San Pedro market, which at an altitude of 3,400 meters, is one of the highest in the world. Talk about starting your morning on top of the world! Learn about the history of the market as you explore rows of local produce, colorful fabrics, flower vendors, shaman stalls, and strong juice makers in the company of an English speaking guide. There is an opportunity to sample some local words and purchase snacks for later in the day. Be prepared for some entertaining local interaction! Leave the unforgettable smells and flavors of the Cusco market behind as we set out in private transportation to explore the Inca ruins on the outskirts of Cusco.First on the Cusco Ruins trail is Q’enqo, which it was once an important Inca ritual and ceremonial center. Explore Q’enqo, then leave for a short 15 minute scenic walk to the statue of the White Christ (White Christ), where we will stop for our delicious Peruvian snack picnic and enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of the urban landscape of Cusco. Next, we will explore the impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. At an altitude of 3,700 meters and only 3 km from Cusco, the fortress has walls up to 400 meters long, made of stones that weigh 128 to 200 tons. Every year the Inti Raymi (Sun Festival) is celebrated in these ruins overlooking the city of Cusco.To end the tour, we will walk back to Cusco, which will take us about half an hour. Then we descend back to the city through the streets of Inca, learning about the theories and legends of the Inca Empire along the way. We will wander through the bohemian neighborhood of San Blas before meeting again at the Plaza de Armas, the main square of Cusco, where your tour will come to an end.
